America Diary I

Its almost more than 2 weeks, I am here in America. I was trying hard to get back to my blog as I haven't written anything for almost a month. Initially the jet lag and then the busy routine prevented me from writing. Today, I got some time and I am here at my desk with the same, old Lenovo R61 laptop, a laptop without  battery, a laptop always on ventilator. Obviously I have started recalling all the events right from the day on which I received the US visa.
After applying for the second time, I received my US visa in this April, I had to go under the same lengthy process again. But this time, counselor at the Mumbai consulate asked me few logical questions instead of numerous vague questions, when he saw the granted visas of various other countries on my passport, he was convinced that I am not the one who is going to be a potential immigrant, I am really visiting US for some authentic purpose and at the end  he told me reluctantly that my visa has been approved. So consulate of United States of America accepted my entry into their country.
On that day while going back to Pune from Mumbai, I started thinking about the huge crowd gathered outside the US consulate, so many desperate faces  trying to seek the US visa for their own different reasons. Some of them used to celebrate their joy in open as if they have won the jackpot when they were granted the visas and I saw the sad faces of people as if they are bankrupt, when they were not granted the visas. Everybody was crazy to go to America,  yes everybody...., I have seen these crazy people not just in India, but in Europe, in Japan too. Definitely there is some magic involved with this name called as 'America'. Children, teenagers, young couples, old buddies everybody wants to visit America, at least once in a life time and in India you can find millions of them. What a strange paradox it is, five centuries before desperate explorers from Europe were eager to come to India to flourish their trade and to make the colonies, to become a rich. Most of them reached Americas instead of India. Now I can see the desperate people  from almost every part of the world wants to go to America, to find the better prospects and a better lifestyle. I was also eager to visit this mighty country. The purpose of writing this series of post is to describe the America based on my experiences, to describe it from my perspective.
After packing up my suitcase, I was ready to fly, the journey was long and the time difference is about 12.5 hours. My first halt was at Singapore and because of the great service provided by Air India, I missed my connecting flight to Los Angeles. The next flight was on next day at the same time, there were 24 hours to spend on the huge Singapore airport as I was not having the Singapore visa. I kept wandering on the airport, contacted my senior colleague Mr. Yashodhan Jog at Los Angeles that I will be reaching there a day later, ate the food at the Chinese restaurant, clicked few snaps and got bored finally. The whole day was wasted, now I did not want to waste one more day so I went back to my hotel room to sleep, so that I can wake up early in the morning and will able to catch the flight to LA.

Visiting the eastern frontiers III

Gangtok :- Capital of Indian state of Sikkim, located among the long ranges of Himalayas and on the eastern edge of the country. When we were entering into Sikkim, a routine check was performed and we were allowed the entry into the state. Our taxi was changed, we were given local taxi and a local driver according to a law of state transport authority. Due to clean roads, disciplined traffic and cool weather, Gangtok looked like an European city in appearance. Our stay was for three days, after taking enough rest, next day we started for 'Tsangpo Lake' very early in the morning. The narrow road goes through the high mountain ranges, we were not aware how far and high we were going. Suddenly when I looked out of our car, I saw the roads were covered with the snow and we were now among those high snowy mountains. There was a considerable traffic of vehicles of Indian Army, off course Indo-China  border was close. In few minutes we reached near the lake. It was awesome view, every...

My days in Japan: III

It was late in the night according to local time when our flight landed on Narita airport. We were standing in the queue for immigration. "We are almost 2 hours late", my friend muttered. I saw in wall clock it was showing 11:30. "Now at least two hours to reach the apartment at Rokugoudote", I said to myself, a distance of approximately 65 kilo-meters. I was worried about the mode of transport, I was totally unaware of the fact that the taxi which was supposed to pick up us from Narita airport was already gone. Immigration officer demanded my passport and invitation letter then he looked at me and called his colleague, discussed something with him. His colleague then asked me whether anybody is accompanying me, after I pointed my finger to my friend both of us were told to wait in some waiting room. He did not ask us any single question or not even explanation for something. We were sitting there for almost half an hour like a statue, I was so tired that I was not...

Traveling, from my perspective

Traveling has been the most popular and favorite among the people throughout the world over ages. People have always tried to explore the new lands on this earth and have always inspired others to do the same. And we know there were no ultra modern modes of transport, there were no luxurious star hotels, there were no google maps, there were no telephones, mobiles and last but not least there were no travel insurances. It is really hard to imagine for us today how difficult the traveling would have been in the ancient or medieval times. But still people of those ages were always passionate to explore the new lands and describing those experiences.         I have read in history books how the famous Buddhist Chinese monk Yuan Chwang was passionate about visiting India. He wanted to study the Buddhism and after facing numerous difficulties he reached India, traveled across the subcontinent, studied Buddhism, participated in religious debates and much i...
